Marlins completely clean house with coaching staff

The Miami Marlins are completely cleaning house with their coaching staff.

Last week we learned that Skip Schumaker would not return as the manager of the Marlins. On Wednesday, we learned that he isn’t the only member of the Marlins coaching staff who won’t be back in 2025.

According to The Miami Herald, the entire coaching staff will not be back, and about a dozen employees total will not return to the team. The most notable coaches who won’t return are pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr. and hitting coach John Mabry.

The others who won’t be back include: assistant hitting coaches Bill Mueller and Jason Hart, third base coach Griffin Benedict, infield coach Jody Reed, bullpen coach Wellington Cepeda, bullpen coordinator Rob Flippo, field coordinator Rod Barajas, bullpen catcher B.J. Lopez, head athletic trainer Lee Meyer, and strength and conditioning coach Brendan Verner.

Additionally, first base/outfield coach Jon Jay and bench coach Luis Urueta were let go, but the Marlins have an interest in bringing them back pending the opinion of the team’s next manager.

The Marlins went 84-78 and made the playoffs last season. But the bottom completely fell out this year as the club went 62-100 and finished with the second-worst record in the NL. This was Schumaker’s second year on the job and his last.

The Marlins have only had two winning seasons since 2010 (one came during the shortened 2020 season).
