Orioles GM confirms manager Brandon Hyde's status after early playoff exit

The Baltimore Orioles will not be overreacting to their playoff flame-out this year.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Orioles GM Mike Elias revealed that the team has made a decision on manager Brandon Hyde. Elias said Hyde will be returning to manage the team in 2025, per Roch Kubatko of MASN.

Hyde, who has been the manager of the Orioles since 2019 has gone 406-464 (.467) over his six years in charge. But that record is deceiving as Hyde successfully heralded the Orioles through a full rebuild during his first few years at the helm and helped mold their young core into a true contender.

Last season, Hyde led the Orioles to 101 wins and their first division title since 2014 (winning AL Manager of the Year for his efforts). This season, Baltimore won 91 games and earned the first wild-card spot in a highly competitive American League.

That said, though, Hyde has not had any success whatsoever in the playoffs, failing to win even a single postseason game during his time in charge. After getting swept 3-0 by the Texas Rangers in the ALDS last season, the Orioles just got swept 2-0 by the Kansas City Royals in the AL wild-card series.

But the Orioles may still ultimately be ahead of their timeline with stars Gunnar Henderson (23), Adley Rutschman (26), Jordan Westburg (25), Anthony Santander (29), Corbin Burnes (29) and Jackson Holliday (20) looking poised to help them compete for a long time to come. Instead of making a manager change, the Orioles may instead focus on addressing some of the major holes that emerged on their roster this season.
