Report reveals extent of Aidan Hutchinson’s injury

The Detroit Lions will be without top defender Aidan Hutchinson for the foreseeable future.

Hutchinson went down with a significant leg injury during the Lions’ Week 6 game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

With about 12 minutes left in the third quarter, Hutchinson sacked Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. But as Hutchinson made the tackle, his leg collided with that of teammate Alim McNeill. Hutchinson’s lower left leg appeared to snap from the contact (video here).

Lions head coach Dan Campbell later revealed that Hutchinson had suffered a broken Tibia. Campbell added that Hutchinson will be “down for a little while.”

Hutchinson underwent immediate surgery in a Dallas-based hospital and is expected to stay there overnight. Such an injury is usually season-ending. But the positive news for Lions fans is that the “early prognosis” on Hutchinson is that he will be completely ready for the 2025 season.

The Lions were already leading the Cowboys 34-6 when Hutchinson got injured. Detroit held on for a 47-9 victory.

Losing Hutchinson is a brutal blow for the Lions’ defense, which relies heavily on the third-year pro’s pass-rushing abilities. The 24-year-old entered Week 6 with an NFL-best 6.5 sacks.
