It would seem that former Vegas Golden Knights goalie Logan Thompson and the team did not part on the best of terms.
The Golden Knights traded Thompson to the Washington Capitals this offseason — just as Thompson was set to sign autographs for the team's fans during the 2024 NHL Draft — to help reshuffle their goaltending depth chart. It is a fresh start for Thompson and an opportunity for him to split the net in Washington with Charlie Lindgren.
On Friday, Thompson was asked about the difference between playing for the Capitals and Golden Knights and he used that question as an opportunity to throw some shade at his former team.
Logan Thompson on the differences between the way the Capitals and Golden Knights play:
— Sammi Silber (@sammisilber) September 20, 2024
"I guess Vegas takes all the credit for goaltending, right? I'm curious to see how different it will be and if I can even play in the league."
The Golden Knights have always been known to be ruthless in their roster management and have cycled through several goalies over the years. They have consistently found good production at the position, though, with Thompson's comment seeming to be a sign that maybe the goalies do not always appreciate being seen as system netminders.
Thompson will get a chance to prove himself on a new team this season. He has a .912 save percentage in 103 NHL games, all with the Golden Knights.
For their part, the Golden Knights goaltending depth chart is topped by Adin Hill and Ilya Samsonov.
