Watch: Tigers home run puts Astros on the ropes in AL wild-card series

The Tigers have the Astros on the ropes.

Tigers centerfielder Parker Meadows broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run off Astros starting pitcher Hunter Brown in the top of the sixth of inning in the second game of the best-of-three AL wild-card series.

Meadows drilled the 94 mph four-seam fastball 358 yards to right field, giving Detroit a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers opened the road series with a 3-1 win on Tuesday and can advance to the ALDS for the first time since 2014 with a win in Game 2 or Game 3, if necessary, on Thursday.

Meadows made his MLB debut on Aug. 21, 2023 and has appeared in 119 regular-season games. 

During the 2024 regular season, Meadows had a .244 batting average with nine home runs and 27 total extra-base hits in 270 at-bats.

Houston (88-73) has reached the ALCS in seven consecutive seasons (2017-23). It hasn't been swept in a postseason since 2001, when it was in the National League and lost a three-game sweep to the Braves in the NLDS.

Detroit (86-76) is seeking its first playoff series win since the 2013 ALDS.

Through six innings of Game 2, the Tigers lead 1-0.
