The University of Washington has been big in the news this week because of its upset win over No. 10 Michigan on the gridiron, but the Huskies of the hardwood are making some splashes too.
Specifically, new men's basketball coach Danny Sprinkle has snagged a major recruit for his program. Courtland Muldrew, four-star shooting guard from Mouth of Wilson, Virginia (Oak Hill Academy) has committed to Washington.
Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Creighton were some of the other schools in the running.
"The program needs a point guard like myself," Muldrew told 247Sports regarding his commitment. "I also wanted to play on a bigger stage on the west coast."
Ultimately, though, this decision came down to Muldrew trusting Washington's new head coach.
“The message he sent is that he wants me to come in and be myself. He showed film of his past guards and showed the average minutes of of his past top guards. He stated “my top guards are going to play 30+ plus minutes a night” and he wants that from me," Muldrew said of his conversation with Sprinkle, according to On3.
Muldrew is the No. 17 shooting guard prospect in the country, according to 247Sports.
Several top basketball players have come out of Oak Hill Academy in the past, a list that includes Chris Livingston, Brandon Jennings, Rajon Rondo, Carmelo Anthony and Ron Mercer, among others.
