Breanna Stewart wreaked havoc on the defensive end Sunday, coming up with seven steals in Liberty's 80-66 win over the Lynx in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals. "Stewie" made history for not just the most steals in a WNBA Finals game, but the most in any WNBA playoff game ever.
Previously, the likes of Ticha Penicheiro (10), Tamika Catchings (9) and Michelle Brogan (9) came up with more steals in regular-season outings. Stewart has set the new benchmark for a playoff game.

While the seven steals were a WNBA Finals record, where does Stewart's achievement rank among all NBA/WNBA Finals games?
She is tied with Robert Horry, who also came up with a record seven steals in the Rockets' 117-106 win over the Magic in Game 2 of the 1995 NBA Finals. No player has matched Horry's feat since.
Kevin Love, Dwyane Wade, Rajon Rondo, Isiah Thomas, Maurice Cheeks, Steve Mix and John Havlicek are next on the list. All those players came up with six steals in various NBA Finals games.
Draymond Green (twice), Michael Jordan (twice), Jimmy Butler, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Metta World-Piece had at least five steals in a Finals game.
Stewart and Horry now jointly own the record for most steals in a WNBA/NBA Finals game.
Besides the impressive steals record, the UConn alum made history on several other counts on Sunday, with her stat line of 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists, seven steals and a block.
First, she became the first player since Alyssa Thomas in 2019 to record 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals in a Finals game, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Second, Stewart, with nine, now trails only Maya Moore (10) for most 20-point games in WNBA Finals history. She has a realistic chance to equal Moore or potentially surpass her by the end of the 2024 Finals.
After Sunday's win, Liberty guard Courtney Vandersloot praised Stewart for being "all over the floor" on both ends, which included putting the clamps on the Lynx's best player Napheesa Collier. Due to the defensive pressure from Stewart, Collier was allowed to attempt only 12 shots, her fewest in any game in the ongoing playoffs.
"When you have your best player, your leader, playing as hard as she does, night in and night out and impacting the game in different ways —not just scoring and rebounding...she's doing other things — it's a big motivator for everybody and she sets the standard for us," Vandersloot said of Stewart, via ESPN's Michael Voepel.
With the series tied at one win apiece, the Lynx could take a 2-1 lead in front of their home fans on Wednesday. However, New York enters the game a -2.5 favorite despite being on the road, via ESPNBET.
