Mets OF reveals stunning injury news following NLCS Game 1 loss vs. Dodgers

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo made a shocking revelation to Tim Britton of The Athletic on Sunday night, following the team's 9-0 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS.

The 31-year-old former first-round pick told the insider that he's been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot since May and has continued to play through the ailment. Nimmo added that the injury got worse during the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies.

"Right now it hurts pretty good," Nimmo said after the series-opening defeat. "The second-to-last game against Philadelphia, I did something on the field and made it quite a bit worse. ... When it gets inflamed and flares up, it’s a harder thing to calm down."

The career-long member of the Mets pointed to two specific moments in the sixth inning of Game 3 against the Phillies as to when he may have aggravated the situation. First, Nimmo told Britton, was when he was "faking down the third-base line to distract" Phillies pitcher Orion Kerkering and the other possibility is when he scored on teammate Starling Marte's two-run single.

Per Britton's report, the ninth-year pro is mostly impacted by the injury when running, but he isn't bothered as much when hitting or fielding.

"I think when I really need it, I’m probably not 100 percent, but I can get going pretty good," Nimmo said. "But it's pretty uncomfortable."

He said that he plans to continue playing, despite the pain, because it's the playoffs.

The injury certainly didn't seem to slow Nimmo down over the summer, as he finished the regular season with 23 home runs, a career-high 90 RBI and 15 stolen bases and a .224/.327/.399 slash line across 571 at-bats covering 151 games. Nimmo led New York in walks (77), ranked second on the team in RBI and third on the squad in games played, at-bats, runs scored (88), hits (128) and total bases (228).

He had his best month of the season in June, recording six home runs, 21 RBI and a .315/.406/.598 slash line, and while he closed with a .189/.243/.368 September, he still showcased his power. Nimmo had five home runs and 18 RBI in the final full month of the regular season and has hit third or fourth in each of the team's eight playoff games.
