Utah's Dylan Guenther named NHL's First Star of the Week

The Utah Hockey Club has a star in the making. Right winger Dylan Guenther is off to a great start for his team and is a major reason why Utah has started 3-0 through the first week.

Guenther was a first-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft by the then-Arizona Coyotes, who now are the Utah Hockey Club due to relocation. Guenther was selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2021 draft.

Guenther notched the first goal in Utah's history on Oct. 8 against the Chicago Blackhawks. He also scored the game-sealing goal against the Blackhawks with an empty-netter to cap his team's 5-2 win in its inaugural game.

Guenther earned the First Star of the Week in the NHL on Monday after putting up five goals in three games. Guenther does not even play on the top line with fellow superstar center Clayton Keller, yet he still put up the numbers he did in the opening week.

Guenther scored twice in Utah's second game against the New York Islanders. He scored the game-winner in overtime against Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov. The overtime winner came at the 2:18 mark and was assisted by winger Logan Cooley and defenseman Sean Durzi. Guenther made NHL history by being the fifth player to score two goals each in a franchise's first two games.

Guenther scored another goal in Utah's next game against the New York Rangers, ultimately a 6-5 win. His goal was on the powerplay and was assisted by center Barrett Hayton and center Nick Schmaltz.

Guenther signed a contract extension with Utah on Sept. 20 and is tied to the team for eight seasons.

He should win plenty more Stars of the Week as the season goes on.
