The New York Yankees took down the Cleveland Guardians, 5-2, in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series, and both teams return to the diamond on Tuesday night. With Game 2 on the horizon, let's break down our two best bets for Yankees-Guardians.
Stanton famously runs hot and cold at the plate, and you want to back him while he's in a groove. Well, he's in the middle of quite the hot streak right now. Over his last four postseason games, Stanton is 7-15 (.467) with two home runs and five RBIs. He's recorded at least one RBI in four of his five playoff starts this year.
Stanton is in a golden spot in the lineup for RBIs behind Juan Soto and Aaron Judge, and this is a solid matchup against Tanner Bibee. Bibee ranks in just the 27th percentile in chase rate and the 10th percentile in ground-ball rate. Plus, he throws his 4-seam fastball 43.4 percent of the time. Stanton is a great fastball hitter, and he isn't in danger of striking out against Bibee as he would be against other starters. The big man doesn't even need to get a hit to cash this prop.
Bibee is an above-average strikeout artist by any metric. The Guardians right-hander ranks in the 74th percentile in strikeout rate (26.3 percent) and the 61st percentile in whiff rate (26.8 percent) this season, but we like his under at plus money in this matchup.
The Yankees have been stingy against right-handed pitching this postseason, as they have just a 19.8 percent strikeout rate against righties. Current Yankees hitters also have only a 10.0 percent K rate in limited action against Bibee. The Guardians have been careful with Bibee's usage in the playoffs, pulling him after 4.0 innings and 4.2 innings in his first two starts. Cleveland trusts its bullpen more than its starting rotation, so Bibee won't last long on Tuesday night even if he gets through the first four innings unscathed.
