Four teams that should pursue Haason Reddick trade

Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick has a new agent - and he could soon have a new team.

The two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher was traded to New York from Philadelphia this offseason and has yet to report to Florham Park. Reddick has been locked in a lengthy holdout with the Jets, who want him to play out the final year of his current contract instead of signing him to the multi-year deal he is seeking.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Reddick hired Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha as his new agents after parting ways with CAA last week. Rosenhaus met with the Jets on Monday to address the holdout, and Diani Russini of The Athletic reports that New York has granted Reddick a short window to seek a trade. Rosenhaus has reportedly been reaching out to teams to gauge interest.

With 27 sacks over the past two seasons, Reddick should still draw interest from teams seeking pass-rushing depth despite the lengthy holdout. It is unclear which teams Rosenhaus has already been in contact with, but NFL insiders have already started linking Reddick to potential trade destinations. Here is a look at some potential suitors.

Detroit Lions

After losing their top edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson to a brutal leg injury, Reddick's first call should be to Detroit. A few weeks earlier, the Lions lost Marcus Davenport to a torn triceps. With two of their top edge rushers likely out for the season, Detroit is said to be scouring the trade market for reinforcements. Reddick had been linked to the Lions even before Hutchinson's injury, but now general manager Brad Holmes could be more willing to make a trade.

Dallas Cowboys

Other than Detroit, Dallas is one of the most obvious fits for Reddick. With Sam Williams out for the season with knee injury, and Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence also on the shelf, the Cowboys need reinforcements.

Parsons could potentially return to face San Francisco after Dallas' Week 7 bye, while Lawrence, who was placed on injured reserve, is sidelined through at least Week 9.

Injuries have depleted an already thin Cowboys defense, which was glaringly evident in their 47-9 loss to the Lions in Week 6. Acquiring Reddick would give the Cowboys' bottom 10 defense a big boost, but only if Jerry Jones is willing to make a trade.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons defense also has an injury problem. Atlanta traded for Matthew Judon in August and he has played well, but injuries have forced Kaden Elliss to play a more traditional inside linebacker role. Atlanta is generating pressure on just 11.7% of drop backs and sit dead last with five sacks this season. Acquiring Reddick could give the Falcons an immediate solution to their defensive woes as they battle Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers for the NFC South.

Cincinnati Bengals

The defensive line has been a weak spot for the Bengals this season. Despite having one of the league’s best pass rushers in Trey Hendrickson, the Bengals have recorded just eight sacks (five from Hendrickson). Cincinnati held the Giants to a single touchdown in Week 6, but the Bengals defense has struggled against better offenses. At 2-4, trading for Reddick would not solve all of their problems, but he would give the Bengals pass rush a significant boost.

New York has already made one blockbuster trade this season, acquiring Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday. Time will tell if it makes a second, but any team that is interested in Reddick should be prepared to offer the veteran pass rusher a multi-year contract.
