Giants HC 'optimistic' WR Malik Nabers will play vs. Eagles

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll said he is "optimistic" that WR Malik Nabers will return this Sunday against the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

Despite suffering a concussion during the fourth quarter against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 26 and missing the last two games, Daboll is encouraged by what he has seen from Nabers, especially on Wednesday in a noncontact jersey.

"Malik has made good progress. Good progress where he's able to come out here today and practice. He'll have a red jersey," Daboll said at his Wednesday news conference. "He passed some of the steps that he needed to do. He's better, which is a good thing. We'll see."

The absence of Nabers has been a big hit for a Giants team struggling to find consistency. Possessing a 2-4 record, including a 17-7 loss to the Bengals Sunday night, getting the No. 6 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft back from concussion protocol would significantly boost the team.

Even though Nabers has missed each of the last two games, he still leads the team in receptions (35), receiving yards (386) and touchdowns (3). The rest of the team has three receiving touchdowns combined, achieved by wide receivers Darius Slayton (1) and Wan'Dale Robinson (2).

The Giants have been without running back Devin Singletary (strained groin) for the last two weeks. While Singletary returned to practice this week, Tyrone Tracy Jr., the rookie out of Purdue, has received an increased workload in his absence, scoring his first career touchdown against the Bengals on Sunday night.

The focus now shifts to this Sunday, when former Giant Saquon Barkley returns to MetLife Stadium at 1 p.m. ET.
