Five potential trade targets for Washington Commanders

In a year in which they are overachieving, the Washington Commanders sit atop the NFC East with a record of 4-2.

Although Washington is off to a strong start, its defense has been quite the issue through six weeks. Washington ranks 22nd in yards per game allowed (354.0) and points per game allowed (24.2)

Washington can improve not only its defense but also its chances of staying atop the division with one of these five transactions before the trade deadline.

Jaycee Horn

Horn, a fourth-year cornerback out of the University of South Carolina is stuck on a bad Panthers team that is 1-5 and going nowhere.

Horn would instantly improve the Commanders defense, giving them a lockdown cornerback on one side of the field that could match up against the elite receivers in the division such as A.J. Brown and CeeDee Lamb.

Jadeveon Clowney

The former No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Clowney is teammates with Horn on a bad Panthers team.

Clowney's ability to rush the passer (53.5 career sacks) would greatly improve the Washington defensive line, especially after losing star defensive tackle Jonathan Allen for the remainder of the season due to a torn pectoral muscle. A trade for Clowney helps Washington regain its ability to get to the quarterback.

Haason Reddick

Since being traded to the Jets in the offseason, Reddick has not once reported to the team or the facility amid a contract holdout.

Reddick has been permitted to seek a trade and Washington would make a ton of sense. Reddick is one of the elite pass-rushers in the league when he is on the field (58 career sacks) and would be a huge boost to the Commanders defense.

Denzel Ward

Ward is one of the few bright spots on a bad Cleveland team that has already shown its willingness to trade players, as we saw with Amari Cooper being shipped to Buffalo.

Ward's 10 pass deflections are tied for the most in the league this season and like Horn, he would be a lockdown corner on Washington's defense to help shut down the passing game of the Eagles and Giants.

Maxx Crosby

This may seem like a long shot, but the Raiders certainly aren't a threat to make the playoffs this season and they need to begin to retool for the future.

Crosby is known as one of the elite defensive ends in the league and adding that presence on the defensive line would be huge for Washington. Pairing Crosby with DaRon Payne, Dante Fowler Jr. and Dorance Armstrong along with a trade for a defensive back would give Washington arguably the best defense in the division.

Any of these five additions for Washington could be a key contribution for the remainder of not only this season but also future years.
