Inside sources reportedly think Tom Brady has Bill Belichick in mind for Raiders

Earlier this week, former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was finally approved as a minority owner of a Las Vegas Raiders side that could be a couple of losses away from punting on the remainder of this season ahead of the Nov. 5 trade deadline.

At least one person is certain he knows what Brady's first significant move will be while officially associated with the Raiders.

"I’ll just say this, host Kirk Minihane said on the latest edition of his "The Kirk Minihane Show,as shared by Reice Shipley of Awful Announcing. "won’t get specific. People have told me that Brady’s first move is gonna be to ask Bill Belichick to be the new coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. Two sources have told me that. Two [sources] high-up in the Patriots organization have told me that."

There's plenty to unpack here.

Mike Moraitis of Sporting News, along with others, pointed out that it's not a stretch to believe Minihane has some inside information regarding the thoughts of individuals within the Patriots, considering he previously served as a columnist and host for Boston sports radio station WEEI.

Additionally, a Belichick-Raiders marriage makes sense for multiple reasons. As much as players loved Antonio Pierce when he was interim head coach, he couldn't prevent members of his locker room from making alleged "business decisions" early into his first season as Las Vegas' full-time coach before wide receiver Davante Adams engineered a trade to the New York Jets and before the Raiders fell to 2-4.

In short, things are likely to get worse for the 2024 Raiders before they get better. ESPN's Dan Graziano revealed on Wednesday that other teams "are wondering if the Raiders will keep selling off playersbefore the trade deadline arrives. Perhaps team owner Mark Davis would, at the very least, hear Brady out about giving Belichick a call if Las Vegas falls to the very bottom of the overall league standings by Christmas.

As for the Brady-Belichick relationship that seemingly was on rocky ground back in March 2020, the two are now on speaking terms and have repeatedly had nothing but positive things to say about each other during interviews and public appearances. Brady routinely refers to Belichick as "the greatest coach ever.

Brady reportedly will help in "recruiting top talent to the (Raiders) organization on every levelas a minority owner, but that doesn't necessarily mean Belichick would take the job if asked.

Over the past few weeks alone, stories have linked Belichick with the Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. It remains to be seen if Brady could convince Davis to win a bidding war for Belichick's services, assuming one arises come January.

Belichick is expected to return to the sidelines next year in pursuit of the NFL record for career victories earned by a head coach (regular season and postseason combined).

Brady and Belichick are both serving as media personalities this season, and neither man has been shy about making what could be viewed as controversial takes. One wonders if either or both will address the Raiders-related rumor at any point over the next week.
