Utah Hockey Club General Manager Bill Armstrong announced on KSL Sports Zone that defenseman Sean Durzi will be out for the foreseeable future with an upper-body injury.

Durzi left Monday’s 3-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils with an upper-body injury following an awkward hit from Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler while trying to move the puck into the offensive zone. Durzi played 9:09 of ice time across 12 shifts on Monday, registering a shot on goal and two blocked shots.

Through four games this season, Durzi has two assists and registered the Utah Hockey Club’s first franchise fight after dropping the gloves with Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy.

During the 2023-24 campaign, Durzi tallied a career-high 32 assists and 41 points in 76 games with the Arizona Coyotes. He signed a four-year contract extension with Utah that carries a cap hit of $6 million through the 2027-28 season.

The Mississauga, Ontario native Durzi was originally taken in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, before he even made his NHL debut, he was dealt to the Los Angeles Kings in Jan. 2019 in the trade that sent Jake Muzzin to Toronto.

Throughout his career, Durzi has racked up 21 goals and 87 assists for 108 points in 216 games with the Kings, Coyotes and Utah.

Utah will have to juggle their defensive pairings as a result of losing Durzi to injury. Durzi was skating on the top defensive pairing with Mikhail Sergachev and was considered their No 2 guy. Utah will have to recall someone from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Tuscon Roadrunners.
