You could make the argument that Swayman’s deal should have been the minimum for Oettinger, but he’s clearly happy there.
This came together relatively quick – two sides had not engaged by this time last week
Oettinger is coming off a 2023-24 campaign, where he posted a 35-14-4 record, along with a 2.72 goals-against average, and a .905 save percentage.
During the 2022-23 season, the six-foot-four netminder put together a 37-11-11 record with a .919 save percentage in 62 appearances, including a 10-9-0 record in the post-season.
In 2020, Oettinger became the first goalie in the expansion era to make his NHL debut in the round leading into the Stanley Cup Final. Oettinger came in during the third period of Game 2 against the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Lakeville, Minnesota native was taken No. 26 overall by the Stars in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Oettinger had three dominant seasons playing NCAA hockey with Boston University between the 2016-17 and 2018-19 season. His best statistical season was his freshman year, where Oettinger had a 21-11-3 record with a .927 save percentage in 35 appearances.
Oettinger owns an impressive career record of 114-48-23, and also has appeared in 47 Stanley Cup Playoff games for the Stars, playing to a .915 save percentage
Internationally, Oettinger has represented the U.S. at the World Junior Championships, winning gold in 2017 and bronze in 2018. He also suited up in 2021 for the U.S. at the World Championships.
