Jamal Crawford To Fill In For Walt Frazier During Select Knicks Broadcasts

This is not uncommon in the NBA these days, with teams slowly but surely starting to weave in multiple in-game analysts. For instance, the Cavaliers just recently began to use Brad Daugherty alongside or in replacement of Austin Carr on select broadcasts.

As for Crawford and Frazier, without a doubt, both are beloved by New York basketball fans. Crawford is also leaving TNT, which is in the final year of its contract with the NBA. Amazon Prime and NBC are taking over league media rights, along with holdover ESPN, in 2025.

Interestingly, former Knicks point guard and ex-ESPN analyst Mark Jackson was also once considered for Crawford’s new role.

“Last season, MSG Network planned to have former Knick and lead ESPN analyst Mark Jackson join the crew, but Knicks president Leon Rose put a kibosh on the arrangement, denying Jackson a seat on the team plane because of an old quarrel with assistant coach Darren Erman,” Marchand wrote. “Jackson then decided to forgo the opportunity.

In 2014, Erman was an assistant under Jackson, who was then the Golden State Warriors head coach. Jackson fired Erman. ESPN reported that Erman had taped Jackson and players, unbeknownst to them. Jackson later termed the actions ‘inexcusable.’ Both Erman and Jackson would have been on the team plane together.”

So Crawford it is for MSG. And given Crawford’s strong analysis on TNT over the past few seasons, we can call his occasional swapping with Frazier a pretty good crossover.
