The Cleveland Guardians successfully added outfielder Angel Martinez to the postseason roster as an injury substitute.
Major League Baseball approved the replacement for injured outfielder Tyler Freeman prior to Monday's Game 2 of the American League Division Series against the visiting Detroit Tigers.
Cleveland opened the best-of-five series with a 7-0 victory on Saturday.
Freeman sustained an oblique injury during a recent simulated game. MLB medical director Dr. Gary Green did a full review of the medical information and confirmed the injury.
Under MLB rules, Freeman will not be eligible to return to the roster until the World Series, if Cleveland makes it that far.
Freeman, 25, batted .209 with seven homers, 32 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 118 games during the 2024 regular season.
Martinez, 22, made his MLB debut on June 22 and batted .232 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 43 games in the regular season.
