Steelers Linked To Extremely Surprising Potential WR Trade Candidate In Los Angeles

The fan base for the Pittsburgh Steelers has to be sick of the names Brandon Aiyuk and Davante Adams after General Manager Omar Khan failed to land either of the two superstars in a trade. The organization has been desperate for help at wide receiver throughout the 2024 calendar year, and the regular season has proven that the deal not occurring just yet has certainly hurt the offense. The trade deadline occurs in early November and while a simple move may be what the front office has planned, there could be an opportunity to land an All-Pro if he becomes available.

The next couple of weeks in the NFL calendar will determine which teams are buyers as opposed to the sellers. There will be new names that pop up in trade rumors and, for the first time, a very intriguing play-maker's came up recently in an article written by Tom Blair of the NFL's official website. He named Los Angeles Rams wideout Cooper Kupp as someone to look out for.

The Rams sit at 1-5 and while the team has been hit with the injury bug, Kupp has a hefty cap hit through 2026 and Los Angeles may believe that it is time to part ways with the 31-year-old while his value could still be at an all-time high. A local website that covers the Rams, LA Football Network, also named the Steelers as a potential landing spot for Kupp.

"The Steelers have been linked to just about every wide receiver that becomes available," Andrew Buller-Russ wrote. "However, they may already have their WR1 in George Pickens, so adding a veteran who can help the youngster reach his full potential may be their best move."

There isn't a doubt that if Kupp came to the Steel City healthy, he could make a significant impact on the offense. His future cap hits could present some problems for Khan and co., but there's always the possibility to go through some kind of restructure as any trade gets done. A lot would have to fall into place, but Kupp being available would undoubtedly lead to Pittsburgh being linked.

Any kind of compensation for Kupp would depend on several things. The Rams probably wouldn't want to pick up any more of his remaining salary, but that could lower what becomes available in terms of draft capital. Fans in the Steel City have become accustomed to rumors regarding trade targets and while the third time could be the charm, it also could be the final knockout punch of the Black and Gold faithful getting excited about possible wide receiver acquisitions.

Kupp is a former All-Pro, but has struggled with injuries in recent years. He is expected to be back out on the field in Week 7, and this could theoretically help the Rams' case if the organization attempts to trade him. Pittsburgh could elect to proceed with caution, or not at all, because of how much he would cost, but the prospect of any deal involving Kupp is certainly intriguing.

The Steelers' offense has struggled when it comes to the passing attack, and another weapon is essential if a run is going to be made in December and into January. Kupp's name hasn't been thrown around that much yet, but he could become a popular target once the trade deadline approaches.

Steelers Can't Ignore Pressing Need At Wide Receiver

No defense is going to fear Pittsburgh's wide receiving corps as it sets up entering Week 7. There have been sparks here and there, but nothing has been consistent. Another player thrown into the mix that is able to make a massive difference could be the reason why the team finally wins a playoff game for the first time since the 2016 season. Kupp is a fascinating name, but fans won't get all that excited due to being let down twice now in 2024.

Would you want the Steelers to trade with the Rams for Kupp?
