Following a 51-point performance by the Bucs on Sunday, it is no surprise that offensive coordinator Liam Coen has received some praise on a national scale, especially based on the circumstances in which it came about.
After all, with Coen calling plays, Tampa Bay has been a well-oiled machine racking up yards and putting up points in abundance.
#Bucs offense under OC Liam Coen:
– 594 yards on Sunday (franchise record).
– 172 rushing yards in the 4th quarter (franchise record) without Rachaad White.
– Tied for most points scored in the NFL this season (178).
– Baker Mayfield leads the NFL in TD passes (15).

On Good Morning Football Monday morning, NFL Network’s Peter Schrager named Liam Coen his coach of the week.
Schrager began outlining his reasoning by providing context of the circumstances Coen and the rest of the team have recently had to deal with.
“No team had a more eventful ten days than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,” Schrager said. “A heartbreaking loss to the Falcons on a Thursday. Then, they had to transport everything 700 miles from Tampa to New Orleans as Hurricane Milton was coming to town. And then on Sunday, [they] unleashed an offensive onslaught on the New Orleans Saints defense in their building like none we have ever seen before.”
The Buccaneers came, saw, and conquered the Saints at Caesars Superdome.
It was complete domination on offense, brought to you by the offensive mastermind, his playsheet, and his headset.
“My coach of the week is the offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mr. Liam Coen,” Schrager added. “The Buccaneers had more total yards of offense yesterday than they ever have had in a football game before. More than the Brady Bucs and more than all of those great Buccaneers teams of the early 2000s. From the opening kickoff, where the Bucs elected to receive the ball, they never let their foot off the gas pedal.
“594 yards of offense. Bucky Irving and Sean Tucker combined for 277 yards on the ground. Baker Mayfield threw for 325 yards in the air. You look at what the Buccaneers did in Week 6 [against] the Saints, the first team in any uniform to put up 300 passing yards and 275 rushing yards in a road game, and this week they were first, first, first, first [in offensive categories]. Liam Coen is his name… and he is our coach of the week for Week 6.”
Whether Liam Coen will remain with the Bucs after this season has become a point of conversation for how he has unlocked Baker Mayfield, Chris Godwin, and the rest of the Bucs’ offense this season. If Coen keeps this up, teams lining up to interview him for head-coaching jobs in the offseason, and like in college basketball, he could be one and done in Tampa Bay.
For now, though, the offense is in a groove putting points on the board, and he is starting to earn some credit for being the conductor of an in-tune group.
