The Chicago Blackhawks lost a tough fought matchup with the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night, losing 3-1 including an empty net goal late in the game.

The Blackhawks season opening road trip saw the team go 1-2-1, but there wasn’t a single game that they were not in it late. All in all, there are a lot of positives from the Hawks start of the season, but let’s dive in with tonight’s game.

Chicago Blackhawks lose 3-1 to Calgary Flames to end road trip.

3rd Period:

Highlights:

Just ten seconds after the Flames took the lead near the end of the first period, Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno answered with a goal of his own.

The 2023-24 Blackhawks might have let a fluke goal by their opponent take them off their game. That has not been a problem this season. Foligno’s goal came at just the right time, and included a great shot from Seth Jones. Jones has looked good to start the year, with five points in four games.

While the Hawks didn’t have any other goals to show in tonight’s highlight section, there are still a few moments worth mentioning.

WGN Blackhawks Studio Host Charlie Roumeliotis caught a funny moment from Connor Bedard after he was called for a penalty midway through the second period.

Blackhawks alternate captain Connor Murphy finished the night with one shot on goal, three blocked shots and two hits. One of his hits was a pretty crazy reverse hit that definitely raised the energy in the building.

The Blackhawks will be back in action on Thursday against the San Jose Sharks. While 1-2-1 record might not be the result fans hoped for entering the home opener, Chicago has played some good hockey to start the year.
