Christian Barmore, Providence police at odds over a traffic stop

For the second time in two weeks. a Patriots player has had a run-in with law enforcement officials.

Christian Barmore was pulled over by Providence police early Wednesday morning and, shortly after that, accused the officers of racism on 'X.'

"I just experienced for the first time 5 Providence cops being very unprofessional racism at it’s finest"

That tweet has since been deleted.

The team has yet to issue a statement, and head coach Jerod Mayo declined to offer a comment other than to say, "We're aware of the situation. I had a conversation with him this morning. At least for this time here with you guys, I just want to kind of focus on Jacksonville."

Per the police report, they saw Barmore's SUV around 1 a.m. near Elmwood and Parkis Avenue. That vehicle had "window tint all around" and a "plate cover on the temporary registration causing issues on reading the information."

The report goes on to say the police flashed their lights at Barmore, indicating they wanted him to pull over, but he "slow rolled" the Jeep Grand Cherokee before finally putting the car in park.

"This tactic is known to police by slowing down an interaction with police to hide any contraband or weapons. It should also be noted that the area is known for high narcotic usage," wrote the officers.

The police then exited their cruiser and approached the SUV, at which point they stated that Barmore became confrontational.

"Barmore's first response was why he was getting stopped, which police then stated the reason for the traffic stop and our observations. During this interaction Barmore had an attitude towards police and when requested for proper paperwork for the vehicle he then handed it over in an aggressive manner to police."

At the stop, the officers discovered the temporary registration had expired, and Barmore did not have an updated one.

The report stated, "Barmore then proceeded with giving police an attitude and asked for a ticket. "It was at this time" police advised Barmore that his vehicle was getting towed on scene and that we were going to perform a search of the vehicle as well."

Again, according to police, the Patriots defensive lineman was repeatedly asked to get out of the car but continued to reach under the seat and "conceal" something. It was also during this time he asked for a police supervisor.

Barmore's mother was called to pick him up as his vehicle was to be towed.

"It should be noted that while we were trying to get control of Barmore, he kept pushing away from police, stating that he did not want to be touched," police wrote. "He then walked towards the rear of the vehicle while police proceeded with the search and we found an ash cup along with what appeared to be a blunt rolled with an unknown substance where he was seen reaching under the seat."

According to the report, they found several tubes of what appeared to be marijuana in the car. A summons for several violations had to be left in the SUV because of Barmore's "belligerent behavior and not wanting to stay on the scene." Normally, they would just be handed to the individual.

Barmore has been on injured reserve since this summer after he was discovered to have blood clots. Recently, Mayo had said that the defensive tackle had been hitting checkpoints and that a return this season wasn't impossible. Barmore signed an $84 million extension this April, with over $41 million guaranteed at signing, the most ever given to a Patriot player other than Tom Brady.

Earlier this month, safety and captain Jabrill Peppers was arrested after allegedly choking his on-again, off-again girlfriend.
