Week 3 features a pair of Monday Night Football games. The early game is the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Buffalo Bills. Given how difficult both teams’ September schedules are, this a must-win contest for both teams.
The Jaguars struggled to start the season with a 20-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins. In that game, their defense gave up 319 passing yards and allowed the Dolphins to convert 50 percent of their third downs. They’ll need to shore these up, as they’re going against one of the better passing offenses in the Bills. Buffalo is a top-10 passing and scoring offense led by quarterback Josh Allen. Allen’s dual-threat ability allows the Buffalo Bills to test vulnerabilities in defenses, which could spell trouble for Jacksonville. The key for the Jaguars is to use their balanced offensive attack to sustain drives and keep Allen and the potent Bills offense on the sideline. If the Jaguars have several three-and-outs early, it could put them behind and pressure them into relying on the pass more.
It should be a fun contest between two good defenses. Even with Jacksonville surrendering passing yards and not getting off the field on third downs, they still held an excellent Dolphins offense to 20 points. Therefore, even if the Bills gain progress early, the Jacksonville Jaguars have the dudes to limit scores.
The Jaguars have a September slate of games against the Dolphins, Browns, Bills and Texans, four teams that could make the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Bills face the Ravens and Texans after the Jaguars, making this game integral for both teams’ momentum.

ESPN analytics favor the Bills by more than 61 percent in this game. It’s simple to see why, given how good Buffalo’s offense is. Allen should find success against a bend but not break Jaguars' defense, which tends to give up big plays but not many points. The difference in this game comes when Jacksonville has the ball. They must be able to sustain drives and limit the Bills' possessions. If Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawerence can make some big plays early, it will stay close throughout. However, the Bills are too dynamic of an offense, giving them a slight edge in a well-contested game.
