'Living the dream': Robert Saleh has surprising take about life post-Jets firing

The New York Jets fired former head coach Robert Saleh on October 8th. Since then, his name has been a constant among media and possibly fan discussions while at their favorite cafes and pubs. But the 45-year-old never appeared anywhere or made a statement of any kind, preferring to be with the family out of the limelight.

Now, more than a week after his career-defining day, sources associated with TMZ finally managed to track him down. The moment he stepped out of Whole Foods in New Jersey, they asked him how he was coping with what happened this week.

Living the dream, brother.

Robert Saleh replied

As he said that, he walked towards his truck with a bag in his hand. But until he got into the driver’s seat, the photographer had asked two more questions.

First, Saleh was asked about the praise legendary coach Bill Belichick and Hall of Famer Peyton Manning had showered on him while calling out Jets owner Woody Johnson. But the now out-of-job coach simply kept walking and did not utter a word in response.

The TMZ associate again asked a question if him sporting the Lebanese flag had anything to do with his firing. The former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator continued his walk of silence. He probably did not want to say anything that could have an impact on future job endeavors.

Robert Saleh ready to look for another head coaching job

Even though he kept quiet for the past two questions, the photographer was not deterred and asked if people would see him on the sidelines of another team soon. Robert Saleh answered, “God willing.”

He said this as he stepped into the driver’s seat and then proceeded to head home. If anything, his answer and his first public appearance caught on camera suggest he is ready for the next step.

With the reputation he built as the defensive coordinator of the 49ers and the discipline he brought to the New York Jets, it might not be long before his phone rings. Bill Belichick and several other former coaches have talked about what he brings to the table. They believe the Jets fired Saleh despite not being the problem.

If the 49ers’ defense doesn’t live up to their usual standards, they might not hesitate to call their former DC. The same might go with the eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach. His next head coaching job could see Saleh on the sidelines with a DC hat on.
