Bret Hart comments on Gunther naming his arch nemesis as his favorite wrestler in front of him during recent WWE appearance
Shelby Reeves/Chillicothe Gazette / USA TODAY NETWORK

A month ago, Bret Hart returned to WWE on a Raw episode in Calgary. Hart addressed the live crowd briefly before Gunther interrupted the legend. The World Heavyweight Champion proceeded to mock Hart, as he called him his second favorite wrestler. However, Gunther claimed that his favorite was none other than Bill Goldberg .

The Hitman recently broke silence about the heated moment. While speaking with The Wrestling Classic, Hart said that Goldberg got off quite easily. The WWE Hall of Famer seemingly refrained from commenting further about Goldberg. Hart’s disdain for The Myth has been well documented for decades.

A ‘botched’ kick from Goldberg forced Hart into an early retirement in 2000. The latter has still not forgiven the WCW legend for what transpired during their match. Speaking of the segment, Gunther naming Hart’s arch nemesis in his promo garnered a lot of heat from the live crowd.

Sami Zayn came out to confront The Ring General, as he had enough of him disrespecting his childhood hero. A brawl ensued after Gunther once again denied giving Zayn an opportunity at his title. The closing shot saw the former Bloodline member standing tall alongside Bret Hart inside the ring.

However, Gunther only brought up Goldberg’s name to irk the former WWE Champion. Interestingly, the Austrian wrestler would end up embroiled with yet another legend in their hometown only a few weeks later.

Gunther clarified that Goldberg wasn’t his favorite wrestler while growing up

WWE’s recent Bad Blood PLE emanated from Atlanta, Georgia. The promotion invited several of its legends to the show, including Atlanta’s own Goldberg. During the event, Triple H made a ‘historic’ announcement regarding the new Crown Jewel championship.

Moments later, Gunther came out and vowed to win the title. The Ring General didn’t stop there, as he called out Goldberg as well. Gunther referenced the aforementioned segment with Bret Hart. Moreover, Gunther clarified that he was lying when he named Goldberg as his favorite wrestler.

The World Heavyweight Champion insulted the WCW legend, stating that the latter was a “one-trick pony.” Gunther then spoke with Goldberg’s son, Gage. The King of the Ring winner said that he hoped the Hall of Famer was a better father than he was a professional wrestler. Goldberg understandably had enough and jumped the barricade to confront Gunther.

As security separated both sides, Sami Zayn attacked his rival from behind. Nonetheless, the confrontation left many fans grasping at the possibility of a match between Gunther and Goldberg. Since then, there have been several conflicting reports that have emerged regarding the same.
