Even though Jannik Sinner has been breaking records one after the other this season, he may not be enjoying as much as he wants to. The doping controversy is not over yet as the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has appealed to the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS), demanding a ban for Sinner. President of the Italian Tennis Federation (FITP), Angelo Binaghi, has now opened up about Sinner’s case.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) found low levels of a banned steroid called clostebol in Sinner’s samples in March this season and for this, the player faced a provisional suspension. When the ITIA cleared him of all charges following an investigation by an independent tribunal, it caused an uproar in the tennis community. Now everyone is waiting for CAS’ decision.
We have great confidence in the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport). Even WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) believes that it should not requalify what happened, the appeal concerns the correct application of the rules currently in force on this accidental incident. It was an achievement for Jannik to hide everything and then manage the media avalanche, now, in my opinion, the most acute phases of the storm have passed. When will the judgment come?

Several players before Sinner have been punished by the ITIA in spite of consuming banned substances accidentally. As Sinner did not face a lengthy ban, many have accused the ITIA of ‘double standards’.
Though the ongoing Six Kings Slam is not an ATP event, if Jannik Sinner wins the exhibition event, it will not only be his eighth title of the season, but he’ll take home from the lucrative exhibition event $6 million. It’s almost double the prize money he won at this year’s US Open.
In the Six Kings Slam quarterfinals, he defeated Daniil Medvedev before securing a victory over Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. It was the youngster’s third win over the Serb this season.
He has reached the final and is waiting for the winner of the second semifinal clash between Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz is likely to emerge as the champion as the retiring Nadal has not been able to play to his full potential this season due to injury issues.
Sinner, in spite of the doping controversy, is the most successful men’s player of the season as he has bagged seven ATP trophies, which includes his first two Grand Slam titles (Australian Open and US Open). Before the Six Kings Slam, he won the Shanghai Masters by beating Djokovic in straight sets.
