Winnipeg Jets Announce More Training Camp Cuts

The Winnipeg Jets announced today that they’ve made more roster moves with their training camp group.

Defensemen Simon Lundmark, forwards Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Mason Shaw and Dominic Toninato were all placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the Manitoba Moose.

Goaltender Thomas Milic and defensemen Tyrel Bauer and Dmitry Kuzmin were assigned to the Manitoba Moose.

The NHL waiver wire was loaded today with a lot of good depth talent available. Jonsson-Fjallby is a lucrative option for teams needing a good depth piece. Toninato is a steady forward who plays with bite and Shaw is a grinder fourth-line player who can contribute to any team he’s playing for. Lundmark is another really lucrative option that could be claimed from the Jets that could explode with a proper opportunity to flourish in the NHL.

Jonsson-Fjallby split his season with the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose last season. He played 26 games in the NHL posting five points (2G, 3A) and 30 points (12G, 18A) in 41 AHL games. Toninato also split time between the Jets and the Moose in 2023-24. He posted five points (1G, 4A) in 15 NHL games and 20 points (7G, 20A) in 37 AHL games.

Shaw spent time with the Jets and Moose rivals, the Minnesota and Iowa Wild. He posted seven points (4G, 3A) in nine AHL games and three points (1G, 2A) in 20 NHL games. Lundmark is the only player of the four on waivers to have spent the entire 2023-24 season in the AHL. His defence partner was Ville Heinola and Lundmark posted an impressive 17 points (5G, 12A) in 67 games while also playing a larger role for the Moose.

Milic split his 2023-24 season with the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL and the Manitoba Moose of the AHL. Milic quickly became the starter for the Moose and will continue to flourish in that role for the 2024-25 season. Bauer spent his second season with the Moose where he posted seven points (2G, 5A) in 56 games. He also accumulated 83 PIMs and was a large part of the Moose’s physicality. Kuzmin spent his 2023-24 season bouncing between the ECHL and AHL like teammate Thomas Milic. He posted three points (1G, 2A) in 18 AHL games and nine points (2G, 7A) in 24 ECHL games.

The Manitoba Moose roster is currently standing at 30 players made up of 14 forwards, 11 defensemen and five goaltenders.
