Kraken Leadership Core Gets a Revamp

The Seattle Kraken have been without a captain since Mark Girodano was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs following the Kraken’s inaugural season. Since then, the Kraken have utilized a leadership group consisting of four alternate captains, Jaden Schwartz, Adam Larsson, Yanni Gourde and Jordan Eberle.

Leading up to the 2024-25 home opener, head coach Dan Bylsma teased the media saying things like “we’ll see” and “no… you’ll see at puck drop” when asked about naming a captain this season. Much to everyone’s surprise, the Kraken did name Jordan Eberle captain during player introductions ahead of puck drop on October 8th, along with giving Matty Beniers a well deserved “A” this season following his contract extension.

Leadership is about having a team-first mindset, and Jordan has all the qualities of a captain. His experience on the ice speaks for itself, but it’s the way he treats everyone around him that leaves an indelible mark. I’m confident Jordan will be an outstanding leader for this franchise.
– Dan Bylsma, Kraken Head Coach.

Jordan Eberle started his career playing seven seasons with the Edmonton Oilers before playing for the New York Islanders for the next four seasons, and ultimately being picked up by the Seattle Kraken during the 2021 NHL Extension Draft. He scored the first hat trick in Kraken franchise history on November 4, 2021, against the Buffalo Sabres. Eberle has played in 1018 games with a total of 702 points (299 goals, 403 assists) over the course of his career. March of 2024 was a busy month for Jordan Eberle, playing in his 1000th game with the Kraken on March 12 against the Vegas Golden Knights, his 1000th game ceremony was held on March 14 when the Kraken played against the Washington Capitals. Along with both of those milestones, Eberle secured a future with the Kraken when he signed a two-year, $9.5 million AAV contract in March of 2024.
