How Amari Cooper to Bills improved Josh Allen’s MVP odds

Amari Cooper was traded to the Bills for a third-round pick on Tuesday, and Josh Allen‘s MVP odds at FanDuel improved in the wake of the news.

Allen had +750 odds behind Patrick Mahomes (+300), Lamar Jackson (+500) and C.J. Stroud (+500) on Tuesday morning. Post-trade, Allen’s odds shortened to +650. Meanwhile, Jackson and Stroud are now tied at +550 — an implied probability decrease of 1.3% compared to a few hours earlier.

Bills futures had not yet calcified as of publication. Expect them to move slightly in the same direction, however. Odds for Buffalo’s game against the Titans next week remain unchanged throughout the market — they’re still a consensus -8.5 favorite for that contest.

It’s been a tumultuous Tuesday for AFC East odds. While Buffalo opened the day as -500 favorites after beating the Jets on Monday to take a 1.5-game lead in the division, the Jets acquired Davante Adams, which dropped the Bills’ odds to about -400. Those odds have now settled at around -375 across the market.

Allen had been the favorite for MVP heading into Week 4 after a 3-0 start with no interceptions and 9 total touchdowns. That changed after a two-game losing streak, but his perch among MVP favorites solidified again with a gutty win over the Jets on Monday.

Now, he’s further cut his deficit with the acquisition of Cooper, who will fill in a wide receiver room that was in need of improvement. Still, don’t expect Cooper to act as a traditional WR1. The philosophy of this team is to spread the ball around as many options as possible, creating as many matchup problems for defenses as possible.
