Klay Thompson has a couple of dates circled out of the Dallas Mavericks 2024-25 NBA calendar, and all of them are against the Golden State Warriors.
Nobody imagined in 2022 that Klay would be wearing a jersey that isn’t the Warriors’. While his performance in the 2024 play-in tournament may have sealed his departure from the squad, it was still painful for many die-hard Dubs fans to see one of their own leave for a rival in the Western Conference.
The sign-and-trade was especially rough for the Warriors’ core, as they played the entirety of their pro careers together. Green was even involved in rumors after the fact as the front office looked to build the best possible roster for Stephen Curry.
However, Green is still in the Bay and is poised to start the season with the Warriors. Thompson gave the perfect response to his former teammate’s ribbing.
Green didn’t mince words when it came to the prospect of facing his former teammate. While he admitted that Thompson is still his brother, he admitted he will still talk smack as he’s not playing for his team.
It seems Klay fully expected this to come out of his teammate’s mouth and had the perfect response with Rachel Nichols asked him about it, as reported by Sports Illustrated’s Madison Williams:
“Well, if so, I’ll take two,” Thompson said. “I’ll take two free throws and I’m a pretty tough guy, so I think I can handle it.”
The four-time champ had a rough final season with the Warriors, averaging 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting for 43% on the field and 39% from deep. Dallas Mavericks fans hope that his numbers won’t continue to trend downward as he’ll be playing as the third option behind Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
