Former NHLer and New York Rangers player Sean Avery is not impressed with Mika Zibanejad's start to the 2024-25 season and is calling him out for laziness

Mika Zibanejad of the New York Rangers is no doubt one of the NHL's star players, and has been putting up big points for the past six seasons. One former NHLer and past Rangers player is not impressed with the forward's work ethic, though, and has called him out publicly.

Mika Zibanejad has a great showing in his last game with the New York Rangers, putting up a goal and two assists against the Detroit Red Wings. However, those were his first goals and points of the season after he was held off the scoresheet in the team's first two games of 2024-25. During the game against the Red Wings, Sean Avery, a former New York Ranger who was playing for the team when the NHL rule book was amended to include the 'Avery Rule', took to his social media to point out what he felt Zibanejad was doing wrong. Avery referred to him as 'lazy,' and accused him of hiding in order to avoid doing the dirty work. Avery also criticized Mika Zibanejad's well-known love of DJing during the summer when the NHL is on break.

'Ok, Mika. DJing in Ibiza all summer, here we go. Bear down. Bear down, Mika. The season's started, Mika!'

It feels like Mika Zibanejad ended up getting the last laugh on Sean Avery with the three-point night. That said, Avery can boost a four-point night in his career despite not being at all known for his offense talents during his time in the NHL. It came against the Boston Bruins, with Avery netting one goal and three assists in a 7-0 Rangers win.
