Rasmus Dahlin was recently named the captain of the Buffalo Sabres and there is no doubt that the franchise is expecting him to pull the team out of the gutter.
However, that is not going to be an easy task. The Sabres have been very bad for a very long time at this point and fans have absolutely had enough of the garbage. Having said that, the Sabres are off to a rough start this season and it would appear as though everyone on the team is sick of it already.
Today at practice, Dahlin could be seen hitting Peyton Krebs with an ill-advised hip-check. This subsequently led to a fight between Dahlin and Krebs, who was clearly angered by his own captain's recklessness. If anything, this just shows the Sabres reek of dysfunction right now.
After a stunt like this, you have to wonder whether or not Dahlin even deserves the captaincy right now. At the end of the day, you should never be seen treating your guys like this. Hip checks can be dangerous, and to do one in practice on your own teammate is just another level of stupidity.
Hopefully, the Sabres are able to figure it out, and that includes Dahlin. It would be a shame for the Sabres to be reeking of mediocrity for another generation. The fans deserve to see their team in the postseason again. For now, however, it appears as though bad play is going to be the norm until someone in the front office figures it out.
