Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche have been off to a truly putrid start this season and fans are unsure of what is going on.
Last night, the Avalanche lost at the hands of the Boston Bruins by a score of 5-3. Once again, the goaltending was lacking, even if the Avalanche did score some goals. Now, the team is 0-4, and many are wondering if this is even a playoff team right now. The roster says they should be, but instead, they have been downright awful all year.
Now, the Sportsnet Stats department is laying it on thick with a statistic that could spell trouble for the rest of the Avs season. Of course, past results do not predict the future, but there is one stat that reveals how the Avs season usually spells a whole lot of trouble.
No team has ever started the season at 0-4 and then went on to win the Stanley Cup. This is a huge slap in the face, although at the same time, not many people predicted the Avalanche to win it all this year, anyway. But still, this should prove to be a wake up call for a team that should at least contend.
At the end of the day, their problem is goaltending. They need to seek out a new goaltender. Until they do that, they might be stuck in this position for quite some time, which is certainly unfortunate.
