Alperen Sengun rose up the ranks quickly last season under Ime Udoka. In his third season of the league, he finished third in the Most Improved Player voting behind Tyrese Maxey and Cobey White. Sengun was a great impactful surprise for a Rockets team that almost beat the Warriors for the last Play-In spot last season. The Rockets’ center should build upon that 2023-24 campaign this upcoming season in his fourth year. Here’s a look at his production from last season.
Alperen Sengun averaged 21.1 points per game, 9.3 rebounds per game, 5.0 assists per game, and 1.2 steals last season. He flourished in Ime Udoka’s system and became a primary option on the Rockets. Sengun was a role player his first two years in the league, and he slowly became a popular name last season among hardcore NBA fans helping him to a third place finish for the NBA Most Improved Player award. Sengun was as much a story as Victor Wembanyama, especially at the beginning of the year before his injury that forced him to miss a key stretch of the season late in the year.
Sengun is a guy who will probably continue to grow in 2024-25 with the emphasis on him, being the cornerstone player and the youthful guards like Jalen Green, rookie Reed Sheppard, and Amen Thompson as spacers alongside the veteran Fred Vanvleet. Jabari Smith Jr and Dillon Brooks are a good frontcourt pairing with Sengun. Let’s look at the 2024-25 projections for Alperen Sengun.
Alperen Sengun is projected to be the 39th-rated overall player in fantasy this upcoming season, according to ESPN. ESPN has the following stat line for Sengun: 20.4 points per game, 9.8 rebounds per game, 4.9 assists per game, 1.2 steals per game, and 0.9 blocks per game. Sengun has been compared to the likes of Nikola Jokic and Demontas Sabonis in terms of his style of play and these projections show that style of play being there once again.
The only hesitation with Sengun that ESPN and myself have is that is it going to be his team like it was early on during the season, or will it be Jalen Green’s team like in previous years and after the ankle injury that Sengun suffered in March. The possibilities are there for Sengun to go above these ESPN projections but the Jalen Green factor will be the sole factor why Sengun will only hit his projections.
Alperen Sengun will be a worthy 3rd round to 4th round pick in redraft formats for the upcoming NBA season. Sengun is going to get you 20 10 and 5 on the nights when he’s playing his best basketball. Sengun also will mostly likely be a solid play in DFS on most nights but there will be nights where he’ll struggle because of Jalen Green taking most of the shots away from him.
Sengun will fill up the stats sheets for your rosters if you missed guys like Jokic and Wemby. But don’t prioritize your draft around him, if you can get Sabonis, Wemby, Jokic, and Bam take those guys before Sengun.
