20 reasons why Netflix’s ‘Nobody Wants This’ is the series of 2024

Netflix decided to market to millennials in a huge way with their 2024 series Nobody Wants This . Not only does it star Kristen Bell, Veronica Mars herself, but it also stars Adam Brody, the most millennial-coded boyfriend. For those who weren’t teens or tweens in the early ‘00s, Adam Brody played Seth Cohen on the Fox teen drama The O.C. He single-handedly gave a whole generation the most unbelievable expectations for what a partner should be. Now he’s back at it, not only doing that once more but giving the world so much more alongside a new cast of characters as a hot Rabbi. Those are just a few reasons why Nobody Wants This is the series of the year, but here are some more!

Rom-com realness

Rom-com realness
Netflix

The ‘90s was such a glorious time for romcoms, and by the 2000s, the world had a tidal wave of them, many of them going on to be classics. However, with streaming taking the head seat at the table in regards to how people take in media, the tides changed. Reese Witherspoon-led movies that had just as much romance as they did comedic charm were no longer released regularly, so Nobody Wants This has filled the ultimate void and will hopefully lead to Hollywood investing more in rom-coms once more.

Showcases dating insecurities

Showcases dating insecurities
Netflix

Joanne doesn’t do relationships and dating well. She has many insecurities that likely stem from her parents' divorce and a history of dating disasters. While this isn’t something new, the way Joanne was so honest about how she felt and how crazed she got about someone not texting her back felt refreshing and was 100% relatable.

A rabbi and his date walk into an adult store on their first date…yeah, that’s not the start of a joke; that’s one of the best scenes in the entire first season.

Netflix

TV shows don’t need to have all these bells and whistles. Sometimes, the best ones are just simple stories about everyday people.

Sherry Cola, best known for Good Trouble and Joy Ride, isn’t in every episode, but when she is, her Natasha Lyonne-tone always steals the scene as Joanne’s straightforward friend.

Loser sibling club

Loser sibling club
Netflix

Adam Brody and Kristen Bell are not alone in this show. Oh no, both have siblings who, well, either view themselves or feel the world views them as the lesser siblings, which results in Brody’s onscreen brother dubbing them the “Loser Sibling Club.” They might be losers, but they’re fan favorites! Plus, the relationship between those two almost outdoes the leading pair. So, shout out to Justine Lupe and Timothy Simons for balancing out the romance of their onscreen siblings with pure comedy.

The kiss

IMDB/Netflix

The internet went berserk when Noah and Joanne shared their first kiss, and rightfully so. Not to bring up The O.C. again, but it was reminiscent of when Seth Cohen and Summer Roberts had their Spiderman kiss.

Seth Cohen is one of the most beloved characters of the 2000s, and Noah feels like an evolution of said character because it’s totally believable that a kid from Orange County would move to LA and be a rabbi.
