20 Halloween costumes to throw together at the last minute

Being a ghost for Halloween is as classic as it gets, and it’s also as easy as it gets. If you have absolutely no other options, throw a white sheet over your head and walk around booing at people. It will be obvious to everyone that you’re a ghost. 

A cat is another sinfully easy Halloween costume. All you need is a black outfit, some ears, and some makeup to draw on a nose and whiskers. Just about every department or big box store open on Halloween night will have cat ears available. 

Post Malone is an easy costume because of his recognizable tattoos. With a little eyeliner and some basic drawing skills, anyone can be him. And dressing up as him has only gotten easier as he’s taken on new genres. Almost everyone in America has at least one outfit in their closet that could work for a Post costume. 

You can go as a singular M&M or get a group together to dress as multiple M&Ms. All it takes is a bright monochromatic outfit and a white cut-out of the candy’s logo pinned on your shirt.

If you have a black and white striped T-shirt and a pair of black pants, you’re halfway to having a mime costume. Add some white face paint, a beret, and white gloves if you have them and you’re in business for a last-minute Halloween costume. 

If you need two last-minute Halloween costumes, repurpose your black and white striped T-shirt and dress up as a thief. Add a beanie or a ski mask, and carry around a bag and a flashlight to complete the ensemble. 

If you have a dark red or purple outfit, you can easily become a bottle of wine in a pinch. Just print out the logo of your favorite bottle of vino and pin it to your outfit. If you don’t have a printer, just draw the logo yourself. 

If you need a companion to your last-minute Halloween costume, have your partner dress as a sommelier. All they have to do is dress up as an upscale waiter and carry around a bottle of wine and a glass. They’ll quickly become the most popular person at the Halloween party. 

If you have a red polo and khaki pants, you can quickly become Jake from State Farm. Just pin a State Farm logo to your polo or a name tag that says “Jake.” It’s an easy costume that won’t confuse anyone. 

If you want an easy animal costume that’s unique and way cozier than a cat, be a pig in a blanket. All it takes is a pig nose and ears on your head and a blanket around your body. It’s one of the easiest pun costumes for people to get. 

If you’re really feeling lazy, go as a pile of trash for Halloween. All you have to do is wear a trash bag around your body. If you want to fill it out, stuff it with paper towels or newspapers. 

Being a Sim is an easy and fun Halloween costume. You can dress like a regular person; you just have to fashion a headband with a green diamond sticking up. If you have time to run to a craft store, you can pull together a Sims costume last minute. 

Putting together a mummy costume couldn't be easier. Wrap yourself in toilet paper and secure your costume with tape. The more it rips, the better it looks. 

All you need to be Wednesday Addams is a black dress and two braids. The costume will be more accurate if you wear a white collar, but even without that detail, people will know who you’re dressed as. 

If you have a yellow dress and umbrella, you can easily become the Morton salt girl. Carry around a bit of the product in case people don’t get the reference. 

Being a witch is also incredibly easy. Dress in black and wear a witch hat. That’s all it takes. Of course, you can always make the costume a little more involved with props and face paint, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. 

Do you have a flannel shirt and an ax? Great, you can be a lumberjack for Halloween. Throw on a beanie to make it even more on the nose. (If you also happen to have a toy ax floating around, maybe take that instead.)

A vampire costume can be just as simple to throw together as a witch costume. Wear all black and pop in some vampire teeth. Add a little fake blood if you want to get really gory, but don’t feel bad if you don’t have any. 

If you’re in need of a last-minute costume, be an athlete of any kind. All it takes is a jersey and whatever equipment is used in your sport of choice. There’s a reason there are always so many athlete costumes on Halloween. 

A pop star is an easy last-minute costume, too. Wear your flashiest outfit and carry around a microphone. Bam, you’re a pop star. You can also use a toy guitar or toy keyboard if you don’t have a microphone.
